Copystate

Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-10-12. Short version: Copystate processes the page you invoke it on locally, in your browser, and sends nothing anywhere.

What Copystate reads

Only when you click its toolbar icon or press its shortcut, and only in the tab you are looking at, Copystate reads:

This can include personal information shown on or entered into the page, for example your name, address or account details. Form fields for passwords, card numbers, IBANs, one-time codes and access tokens are replaced with [redacted], as are user names, passwords and token parameters inside URLs. Text that the page merely displays is not redacted.

When you click Open dropdowns, Copystate opens each dropdown briefly. The page reacts as it would to your own click and may, for example, load the options from its own server. Copystate itself sends nothing.

What happens with it

What you do with the copied text, for example pasting it into an AI service, is up to you and subject to that service's privacy policy.

What Copystate stores

One setting: whether you last chose Main content or Whole page. It stays in your browser's local storage for the extension and is never sent anywhere.

Permissions

activeTabRead the current tab, only after you invoke the extension.
scriptingRun the reading code in that tab.

Copystate does not ask for access to all websites and cannot read any tab in the background.
